Please do confirm what your doing in the available text box when you RSVP . Coming for some food first, meeting us at the Theatre or just coming for a drink afterwards. Any and all options are welcome but I’m booking the Restaurant on Saturday and I don’t want to muck them about with last minute changes. Its a family business.
A HERO’S JOURNEY is a surreal new Science Fiction comedy about the constant turmoil and failures of being a writer, by Steve Jordan and Patrick Baker. Don’t worry, it’s not quite as depressing as it sounds…
‘A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.’ – ‘The Hero With a Thousand Faces’, Joseph Campbell.
Matthew is convinced he has the makings of such a hero, like Luke Skywalker and Dorothy Gale before him. However, his life seems reluctant to follow the ‘Monomyth’ structure. His career as a writer is failing, his ideas are terrible, and his only success to date is a trashy Doctor Who novel, of which he is deeply ashamed. For Matthew, our hero, life is a chore.
While teaching dramatic structure to a class of illiterate imbeciles, Matthew finds himself at the centre of his own ‘hero’s journey’. Driven by jealousy of his irritatingly successful best friend, Matthew must pull himself away from late-night showings of The Wizard of Oz to finally prove his ‘genius’. About time too.
