SUMMARY:THEATRE NIGHT - A Hero Rises - An SF / Dr Who-ish play
DESCRIPTION:Please do confirm what your doing in the available text box whe
n you RSVP . Coming for some food first\, meeting us at the Theatre or jus
t coming for a drink afterwards. Any and all options are welcome but I'm b
ooking the Restaurant on Saturday and I don't want to muck them about with
last minute changes. Its a family business.\n\nA HERO'S JOURNEY is a surr
eal new Science Fiction comedy about the constant turmoil and failures of
being a writer\, by Steve Jordan and Patrick Baker. Don't worry\, it's not
quite as depressing as it sounds...\n\n'A hero ventures forth from the wo
rld of common day into a region of wonder: fabulous forces are there encou
ntered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this myster
ious adventure with the power to bestow boons on his fellow man.' - 'The H
ero With a Thousand Faces'\, Joseph Campbell.\n\nMatthew is convinced he h
as the makings of such a hero\, like Luke Skywalker and Dorothy Gale befor
e him. However\, his life seems reluctant to follow the 'Monomyth' structu
re. His career as a writer is failing\, his ideas are terrible\, and his o
nly success to date is a trashy Doctor Who novel\, of which he is deeply a
shamed. For Matthew\, our hero\, life is a chore.\n\nWhile teaching dramat
ic structure to a class of illiterate imbeciles\, Matthew finds himself at
the centre of his own 'hero's journey'. Driven by jealousy of his irritat
ingly successful best friend\, Matthew must pull himself away from late-ni
ght showings of The Wizard of Oz to finally prove his 'genius'. About time
too.\n\nTicket can be bought here (http://www.ticketweb.co.uk/user/?regio
