 S. Tepper introduced a generation of women to Science Fiction with a voice
  as unique as it was celebrated. Known for works with a heavy feminist and
  ecological slant she also wrote works that explored class\, religion and 
 luckily for us\, First Contact\, albeit of a type we`ve never seen before.
 \n\nSadly Sheri S. Tepper passed away on October 22nd and some of her many
  obituaries can be read here\, here\, here\, here and here.\n\nThe bizarre
  events that have been occurring across the world seem to have no bearing 
 on Benita Alvarez-Shipton`s life. That is until she is approached by a pai
 r of aliens asking her to transmit their message of peace to the Powers Th
 at Be in Washington.\n\nHer obligation does not end once the message is de
 livered\, however\, for the Pistach have offered their human hosts a spect
 acular opportunity for knowledge and enrichment\, with Benita as sole liai
 son between the two sentient races. The more she learns about the extra-te
 rrestrials\, the more her appreciation grows for their culture\, their bel
 iefs and their art - especially the ancient and mysterious Fresco that dom
 inates their collective lives.\n\nBut the Pistach are not the only space-f
 aring species making their presence known on Earth. There are others\, col
 d\, malevolent and hungry...\n\n
